Whether you celebrate this traditional Mexican holiday or just enjoy the colorful imagery, Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) decor is a beautiful addition to your home decor. I’ve made tons of Day of the Dead projects over the years but I love how easy this magnetic skull is. In case you’re wondering, this project is based on the beautiful sugar skulls that adorn the family alters on Dia de Los Muertos.
I chose to cut the images out with a pair of sharp scissors but you could also convert the file to be cut in a cutting machine like Silhouette or Cricut. I’ll admit that cutting each of the colorful elements out by hand took quite a while to finish but it was nice working on something while watching a movie with my kids. The magnetic paper cuts super smooth with either scissors or cutting machine.
Don’t worry too much if your cut lines aren’t perfectly straight. If you’re having a really difficult time cutting out these items, you can also just leave a little white border around all the details. You won’t be able to see it on the white background of the skull.
All you need to do now is place the white skull on a metal surface, surrounded by the colorful decorations. Adults and kids alike will have a great time decorating this Day of the Dead magnetic skull!
