Some of my favorite childhood summer memories involve lazy days reading books by my bedroom window, dreaming of interesting people and far off places. I have children of my own now and it seriously makes me emotional when I see them picking up a book for some leisure reading in the middle of the day or when I find them late at night reading in their bed with a flashlight. Books have always been so important to me and I want my children to love them as well. As you can imagine, at any given moment, there are tons of bookmarks laying around our house. I made these fun summer bookmarks to have available for my kids when they need a new one!
The only thing you need to make this fun summer bookmark is a sheet of magnetic paper from OnlineLabels.com and the free file found below. I designed four different versions of this bookmark with different buses and coordinating colors. You can either print and cut all of them or just choose one that you know your child will love. Of course, you don’t have to print these out on magnetic paper but having them fold over the page is fun!
Once you’ve printed the bookmarks on the magnetic paper, use a pair of sharp scissors to carefully cut out each of the strips. You could also use a paper cutter if you want perfectly straight lines.
If you’ve got the time and patience, you can also use those sharp scissors to carefully cut out the bus details. This step is absolutely not necessary but my kids liked the bookmarks better with the bus cut out.
If you want the bookmark to fold over the page, you’ll have to use a craft knife to carefully cut away a tiny section of the magnetic backing. Just make sure you don’t cut all the way through to the other side of the bookmark!
When you’re ready to use your summer bookmark, just fold it over your book page to save for later. The magnetic paper will stick together if your book sheets are thin enough. Don’t worry if the pages are too thick, the folded over section will still stay in place. Hope you enjoy a summer full of reading!
