Between books, movies, and fashion, the 80’s is having a bit of a resurgence right now and I couldn’t be happier! I thought it would be fun to flashback to a few decades ago with this fun “You Rock!” retro cassette tape banner. Whether you’re using it for a recent graduate or to celebrate someone’s birthday, they’re sure to think this banner is, like, totally awesome!
Making your own banner is super easy with the two free files I’ve included below. You’re also going to need some cassette tape labels from OnlineLabels.com to really make the paper tapes look authentic. You can make the banner longer by adding more cassette tapes to the string. Just make sure to print off the same amount of labels!
Once you’ve printed everything out, use a pair of sharp scissors to carefully cut out the cassette tapes and letters.
Use a ruler and an awl (or ballpoint pen) to crease where the tabs will be folded over. This will help you get a nice and clean straight line.
When all the cassette tape tabs are folded over, place the cassette labels in the correct position. Don’t worry if they’re not perfect, neither were our mix tapes from the 80’s!
Now that the tapes are completed, time to cut/score/fold the “you rock” letters.
With everything cut and folded, place some double-sided tape on the flaps and fold over the twine.
Who wouldn’t love to be surprised by this awesome banner on their work station or college dorm room? Of course, you don’t have to use the “You Rock!” words at all and could just have a banner with a string of vintage cassette tapes. Or maybe you’re making this for a geologist aficionado and don’t want to include the tapes. Whatever your need, this retro cassette tape banner is here to help! Hope this banner comes in handy for whatever totally tubular occasion you need it for next!
