Celebrate this upcoming President’s Day by making this sweet and savory patriotic popcorn. Enjoy while the kids are home for the weekend and/or place in mini clear paint buckets to send to school with your child. This is also a great treat for teachers to give to students as they study a unit on the history of the United States when it comes to presidencies. Here’s everything you need to know from creating this tasty treat to two different ways you can package the popcorn.
Patriotic Popcorn Ingredients
- 10 cups of popped popcorn
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 3 cups of mini marshmallows
- Red and blue sprinkles
- Red, white, and blue star sprinkles
- Medium saucepan
- Mixing bowl
- Lined cookie sheet
- 2″ Circle Labels – OL5375WX
- Popcorn Labels (click image below to download)
Step 1– Pop 10 cups of popcorn and set aside in a mixing bowl. Tip: Pop your own popcorn using kernels versus popping bags of popcorn. This saves money and 1/2 a cup of kernels will create your 10 cups of popcorn.
Step 2– Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a medium saucepan. Once melted, add 3 cups of mini marshmallows to the saucepan. Stir until well combined. Turn the heat off as soon as the last marshmallow has melted.
Step 3– Pour 3/4 of the marshmallow and butter mixture over the popcorn in the mixing bowl. Using the spatula, fold the popcorn until all of the pieces are covered in the mixture.
Step 4– Pour the marshmallow covered popcorn on the cookie sheet lined with foil and drizzle the rest of the marshmallow and butter mixture over the popcorn. You’ll need to do this step in order for the sprinkles to stick.
Step 5– Quickly add the sprinkles over the popcorn while the marshmallow mixture is warm. If you wait too long, the sprinkles won’t stick to the popcorn. It’s up to you how many sprinkles you’d like to add!
Step 6– Allow the popcorn to completely cool and then break apart into pieces.
Today we’re chatting about two different ways you can package the patriotic popcorn to share and give to others. First, you’ll want to download this free popcorn printable that will be used on both packaging ideas using the OL5375WX label.
The first way you can package the patriotic popcorn is by using miniature clear paint cans. Simply place the popcorn inside, replace the lid, and attach the label to the front of the can. This is such a cute way to show off the patriotic colors adorning the popcorn.
You can also add a label to the top of the lid for an extra festive touch. An added bonus? If the recipient doesn’t want to eat it right away, they can easily tuck this away into their bag and save for later.
The second packaging idea, which uses a clear bag with a ribbon, is budget friendly and just as festive. Place the popcorn in the bag, twist it close using a rubber band, and apply the popcorn label to the front. To hide the rubber band, tie a red ribbon around the bag to create a bow.
This patriotic popcorn is certainly a delicious snack and a creative way to celebrate President’s Day. Enjoy sharing this with those around you! Make sure to save this blog post because it’s a great snack for 4th of July as well!
