It’s that time of year again, when the kids are counting down to Christmas Day.
Growing up, I loved advent calendars. Most years, my mom bought cardboard advent calendars that had little doors that you’d open up and it would reveal how many days left until Christmas. One year, my mom bought a calendar that had chocolate inside. My brothers and I would take turns eating the chocolate.
My son Kai never has had an advent calendar. Go ahead and lock me up! So, I thought this year, I’d give him a lovely experience he didn’t even know he was missing. A countdown to Christmas. I filled each envelope with candy. Honestly, I wanted to fill it with bouncy balls and other cute trinkets that he enjoys. I literally went to five stores and I couldn’t find bouncy balls anywhere! They were nowhere to be found. So, I opted for candy.
Also, I chose not to use the traditional holiday colors.

Step 1: Print out your labels using your home printer and stick each label on a party bag.
Step 2: Place your candy or toy in each bag.
Step 3: Stick a clothes pin on each of the bags.
Step 4: Cut seven pieces of baker’s twine so they are 3 or so inches longer than the width of your foam board.
Step 5: Arrange your bags and string on your foam board so it looks like a tree.
You’ll need to place one bag on the top line, then two, then three, then four, then five, then six then three for the base of the tree.
Step 6: Once you get the tree centered, tape the ends of the string to the back foam board.
Step 7: Connect the clothespins to the string.
