Host a fun Summer Sangria Party!
Posted By: Matt Hamilton
It’s scorching down here in Orlando, Florida so I decided to throw a summer sangria party for my friends and family. As a guy it can be a challenge to put together an event that is classy and fun, especially if you have a lack of decorative talent like I do.
After thinking for awhile about how I could pull this off, the light bulb when on. I remembered seeing the girls from SustyParty.com on the Shark Tank pitching their idea for sustainable eco friendly party supplies. I liked the style and culture behind their brand so I ordered a bunch of cups, straws, plates and cutlery then made up some fun party printables to go along with all of those items. You can get the printables below for free and see how my party turned out. Bottoms Up!
We made some mozzarella, basil and grape tomato skewers along with some brownies that were to die for. In addition we also offered a ton of other delicious cheeses and eats (we went way overboard). In the picture you will see we used Susty’s wooden birch cutlery wrapped in a blue spotted cocktail napkin and embellished it with a 3″ x 1″ removable “non bonding” label that says “Yum“.
Our guests loved the uniqueness that the wooden forks and knives added because most people opt for el cheapo plastic cutlery at their parties. It might sound crazy but I heard multiple guests talking about the forks and knives. It’s the little details like a birch wood utensil set that makes a lasting impression.
Fun Sangria Party Cups
The main focus of the party was the Sangria so we wanted to do something fun with the cocktails. I thought red plastic party cups would be a bit cheesy so I used clear 18 oz biodegradable cups with grey stars and white 16 oz compostable paper cups to add some diversity. FYI both of these cups are approved by me for flip cup and or beer pong.
We didn’t stop with cool cups, we added decorative 2.25″ round party cup labels with fun fill in the blank sayings on them like “Zero to awesome in #_____ drinks”, “I like to:” and “This cup belongs to:” that our guests could write on with a Sharpie. I would highly encourage you to include these printable cup labels at your event because they make great conversation starters. Good conversation equals a great party!
Raising The Straw Flags
Fun drink flair is a must and it’s easy to do. I used Susty Party’s blue striped paper straws and added straw flag labels using the OnlineLabels.com 4″ x 1″ blank labels. The labels were made with Maestro Label Designer, which you get free access to if you order from OnlineLabels.com or you can use the free PDF and Microsoft Word templates that are provided. I added some text and lines with colors matching our party theme.

Summer Sangria Recipe
I was inspired by Bobby Flay’s watermelon sangria recipe from the Food Network. Here’s what you’ll need to make this absolutely refreshing and dangerously easy to drink libation. I made some slight changes based on my taste but stayed close to the recipe.
1 small seedless watermelon, remove rind and cut the melon into large chunks. 1 pound strawberries, hulled and sliced, 1 cup reserved for garnish 1 bottle rose wine, cold 1 cup vodka (yes vodka!) 1 cup fresh orange juice 1/2 cup orange liqueur 1 orange, sliced 1 lime, sliced Get all the directions at more here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/watermelon-strawberry-sangria.html?oc=linkback
